Completed in June of 2009, The Deupree Cottages represent a new national model for elder care, emphasizing the concept of “home.”
The interiors of the Deupree Cottages were developed in cooperation with Steve Shields, a pioneer in the movement towards patient-centered care, the architecture firm SFCS, and Ridgestone Builders. The Cottages reflect a more relaxed environment than the typical nursing home. The goal of the design is to move away from an institutional model based on a traditional hospital layout.
Design Collective is responsible for all interior finishes and furnishings for both Cottages, one in the Craftsman style and one Colonial. Each cottage is designed to house 12 residents, with 10 private rooms and two suites. A central hearth room with a fireplace adjoins a resident kitchen and dining room, encouraging interaction and a home-like atmosphere for residents and staff alike.
