Grand Rapids, MI and Charleston, WV

Mainstreet Ventures, Inc. is one of the Midwest's premier restaurant groups, and retained Design Collective to design three of their distinctive dining concepts.

The Chop House (Grand Rapids, MI) creates a sophisticated steakhouse atmosphere by mixing both traditional and contemporary elements. Housed in a former bank lobby across from the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel and Convention Center, the 130 seat restaurant entices diners with dramatic lighting, cherry millwork, and reproductions of classic paintings. The basement level, known as La Dolce Vita, was converted into a dessert and cigar lounge with stone floors, exposed brick walls filled with wine cases, and cozy furnishings. The space also includes a pastry kitchen and several private event rooms.

Gratzi (Charleston, WV) uses the metaphor of Sienna, Italy's famous Contrada (neighborhood) to divide the large rectangular space into a series of intimate "houses" adjacent to a central plaza. The 200 plus seat restaurant uses a number of faux finishes, antiques, and authentic accessories to recreate the visual effect.
